The SIE and the Series 6, 7, 63, 65 and 66 are the qualification exams that people working in the US securities industry must pass before they can sell securities or give investment advice. FINRA writes and runs the SIE, the Series 7 and the Series 6; NASAA writes the Series 63, 65 and 66, which FINRA administers at test centers. Each exam follows a public content outline that fixes the topics, the number of questions per section, the time and the passing score: 75 scored questions in 1 hour 45 minutes for the SIE, 125 in 3 hours 45 minutes for the Series 7, 130 in 3 hours for the Series 65. The quiz above draws from our bank of 664 questions written by Radif Partners from those outlines, one exam and one section at a time, and shows the explanation and the outline point after each answer. Enrollment, scheduling and results happen only through FINRA and the sponsoring firm; this site is independent of FINRA, NASAA and Prometric.

Which exams does your job need?

FINRA ties each registration category to its exams in Rule 1220, and the states add the Series 63, 65 or 66 for agents and advisers. Pick the job you are aiming at: the finder lists the exams in order, their 2026 fees and whether a firm must sponsor you. The full guide covers the other categories.

The usual path, in four steps

  1. SIE first, on your own. Enroll on FINRA's site, pay $100, schedule within the 120-day window. A pass stays good for 4 years while you look for a firm.
  2. The representative exam, sponsored. The firm that hires you files the enrollment for the Series 7 (125 questions) or the Series 6 (50); the SIE must also be passed before the registration is approved.
  3. The state exam. The Series 63 for a securities agent, the Series 65 for an investment adviser representative, or the Series 66 to cover both, on top of the Series 7.
  4. Stay qualified. The Regulatory Element of continuing education every year by December 31; out of the industry, exams lapse after 2 years unless you join the Maintaining Qualifications Program.

Failing is common enough to plan for. FINRA makes you wait 30 days after a first or second failure and 180 days after a third within two years; from January 19, 2027, Regulatory Notice 26-18 cuts those waits to 15 and 60 days for FINRA exams. Our retake calculator applies the right rule to your date.

A binomial estimate from your own rate, not a forecast: the real questions are worded differently and a weak section can pull the score down.

Three ways to practice

By section, with the correction after each answer: the fastest way to find a weak area, because each outline section has its own page and its own pool. Full mocks, timed, with the official number of questions in each section and the corrections at the end, as on the day. Review of the questions you missed: the site remembers, in this browser only, which answers were wrong and serves them again until they are right. The progress page shows how far you are in each section.

Independent, and what that means

Radif Partners publishes this site on its own. It is not FINRA, NASAA, Prometric, a state regulator or a training company; it sells no course and links to none. The outlines and study guides it works from are public, but their text is not reproduced: each question is our own wording on one of their topics. When FINRA or NASAA change a format, a fee or a rule, the parameter file changes and every page follows; the method page explains how mocks are drawn and marked.

Common questions

Which securities exam should I take first?

Most people start with the SIE, the Securities Industry Essentials exam: it needs no sponsoring firm, anyone aged 18 or over can sit it, and it is the corequisite of the Series 7 and Series 6. The Series 65 is the exception: an investment adviser representative can take it alone, without the SIE or a sponsor. The license finder on this page turns a job into the exams it needs.

Are these the questions of the real FINRA exams?

No. FINRA and NASAA do not publish their item banks, and no honest site can promise the real questions. Every one of our 664 questions was written by Radif Partners from a topic of the public content outline, with an explanation and the outline point it trains. They prepare you for the same knowledge and the same format, not for memorised answers.

How is a mock exam on this site marked?

A mock has the official number of scored questions in each outline section and the official time. The Series 63, 65 and 66 are marked exactly, because NASAA sets the pass as a number of correct answers. The SIE, Series 6 and Series 7 report a scaled score after equating, so our mock compares your share of correct answers to the same figure and says it is an approximation.

Where is my progress saved?

Only in this browser, in its local storage: the questions you answered, whether the last answer was right, and your last mock scores. Nothing is sent to us or to anyone, there is no account, and another browser or a private window starts from zero. The progress page shows the saved data and has a button that erases it at once.

How much do the FINRA exams cost in 2026?

Under the fee schedule in force since January 1, 2026, the SIE costs $100, the Series 7 $395 and the Series 6 $100. The NASAA exams, administered by FINRA, cost $147 for the Series 63, $187 for the Series 65 and $177 for the Series 66. A sponsoring firm often pays for the exams it requires.

How long is a passed exam valid?

An SIE pass is valid for 4 years if no firm registers you. Representative exams such as the Series 7 stay valid while you are registered; once the registration ends, they lapse after 2 years, or after 5 years if you join the Maintaining Qualifications Program and keep up with continuing education every year.

What happens if I fail an exam?

You wait before trying again: 30 days after a first or second failure and 180 days after a third within two years for FINRA exams. From January 19, 2027 those waits become 15 and 60 days. The Series 63, 65 and 66 keep NASAA's own periods, and each attempt is paid in full.
